Description

General Counsellors do not specialise in any particular area and are primarily responsible for the overall activity programme and care of a small group of children. You are therefore required to have extensive childcare experience.

You do not need to be an Olympic athlete of even a certified teacher just an individual who enjoys travel, meeting new people, sports, activities and working outdoors in a fun environment! To be a camp counsellor you'll need an enormous amount of energy and enthusiasm, as it is a demanding role.

The children will rely on you to guide them through a wide range of activities and you must have the charisma to work with a group as well as the sensitivity to listen to the individual. You'll be required to be with the children for 24 hours a day and they will expect you to be a role model, teacher, mediator, comedian and friend.

If you have loads of energy, enjoy working with children, and think you can make a child's summer the best ever, then you are a PERFECT candidate! Camp America is part of the America Institute for Foreign study has been in the business of cultural exchange for over forty years. It is an established programme that provides 24-hour support every step of the way.

If you don't have specific qualifications then we still have a place for you! To be a Counsellor, you must have experience working with children and be able to provide references to testify to this.

Whilst more formal experience is preferred, experience can include regular babysitting, assistant teaching, assisting at a children's play scheme or even simply having younger brothers and sisters for whom you have been responsible over periods of time.
